Sports Corner

Welcome to the 2025 school year!

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the College’s Leader of Sport.  In this role I oversee the organisation of both internal sport lessons and extracurricular representative sports. Our team comprises of assistants, Mrs Tanya Salviero who is in the Palace Wednesday - Friday and Ms Brooke Dart who is the Sport/PDHPE trainee and who is scheduled in the sport department each Wednesday and Thursday.

Sport Communication

There are many sources of sport information available to students and parents alike. Families are encouraged to read the Daily Notices, event information via the Compass portal and access the fortnightly College Newsletter to ensure no sporting opportunity is missed. Students have access to a Sport Classroom and are encouraged to read the posts regularly as sign up for representative teams are posted electronically directly to the Sport Classroom The student code for the classroom is wi7ugjz, however, only students are allowed to sign up due to restricted membership numbers. The Palace is also a hub of information with school sport calendars, coaching allocations and team selections being posted on the Palace noticeboard.

School Sport

Year 7 and 8 participate in a set sport program every Wednesday during Period 5 and 6. Year 9 and 10 participate in an elective sport program on Thursday afternoons, which is selected via Compass in Week 5 of each term for the following term. Depending on the activity students choose there may be an additional cost that will need to be paid and this needs to be taken into consideration when students are selecting their preferences.

A timetable of each year group's sport is on the noticeboard outside the Palace and can be viewed on the Sport Classroom. It is expected that students are familiar with their sporting requirements each week.

As with any activity, there is an expectation that all students behave appropriately.  This is especially important when we travel off-site.  Failure to follow teacher directions or behave sensibly and safely will result in students not being allowed off-site for their sports lessons and will be required to remain at school. Significant breaches of the College Code of Conduct may result in a sports detention or afternoon detention being issued.

Representative Sport Processes for new families

The individual representative pathway for most sports is via the CCC online website except for Touch football, Soccer, AFL, Netball and Rugby League which require students to trial and qualify for the Diocesan team in each sport. It is important to check the CCC Website for details on age groups, trial venues and closing dates. Only students who are well-skilled in a sport should consider trialing for Diocese and CCC teams.

Further information can be obtained from https://csnsw.sport/  (Once on the website, select the CCC link) and is currently open for registration. Details on how to register >>  csnsw.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/2/article/198901765?src=584134009

For sports such as Swimming, Athletics, and Cross Country, students are required to qualify through the school carnival and then sign up online through the Diocese of Lismore Sport webpage to represent the Diocese.

It is important for all families to note that participation in a trial for Lismore Diocese or a NSW CCC team is considered a normal school day. Lismore Diocesan trials will be recorded through Compass, while the CCC trials require parents to submit a note of absence stating the duration and reason for absence through the normal channels, including travel days.

If you require any further information, please contact the Leader of Sport, Danielle McAra - danielle.mcara@lism.catholic.edu.au or contact the front office on 66533155.

2025 School Representation Sport Sign up

All students who wish to trial for school representative teams must sign up on the Google form at the start/end of each term. If there are not enough students signing up for a sport or age group, the event will not run. Students who do sign up commit to attending the trials, all training, the event and any progressive event. If students cannot commit to all of these they are asked not to sign up for the team. The Term 1 Google form is now available to access via the Sport Classroom. For further information about the event, please contact the team coaches directly.

2025 Individual Pathway Representative Sport

Information regarding individual pathway representation is available from the NSWCCC website and the Diocese of Lismore Catholic Schools Sports Website. Registration for the following individual pathways is now open on the Diocesan Website:

Diocesan 15 year boys AFL Trials

Diocesan Touch Football Trials

Diocesan League and Football Trials

Diocesan Netball Trials

Please complete forms in as much detail as possible as only some students will be successful in being invited to trial. Only those students who play the equivalent of Coffs Representative levels and higher should consider signing up.

Parent Coaches Needed!

This year we are short of Rugby coaches and need assistance from parent volunteers. If you are a qualified and current Rugby coach who wants to help out with our female coaching program, please contact the College. Coaches will need to be available to train before or after school and attend at least 2 carnival days throughout the year. A WWCC and qualifications will need to be provided. Please contact Danielle McAra if you are interested or require further information.
